FISHERMEN, Ind., 20 October 2021 / PRNewswire / – CEDIA, the global trade association for the home technology industry, has appointed Daryl friedman as global president and CEO. He will assume the role of November 29, 2021.
Friedman has spent over 30 years in nonprofit leadership roles, overseeing the membership, advocacy, industry relations and technical wing of the 25,000-member Recording Academy. The Academy, known worldwide for the GRAMMY Awards, is the association representing technical and creative music professionals.
“We have found someone who I am convinced will be the radical change in leadership that CEDIA needs and deserves,” says Jamie briesemeister, member of the CEDIA board of directors and of the executive search committee. âDaryl has decades of experience leading trade associations and advocating for members’ rights. He exudes a humble nature that sparks conversation and consensus, and he deeply values ââtechnical expertise and artistry. Daryl has a vision for what CEDIA can be – and will be – and he has the experience to make it happen. “
âHaving represented audio professionals for most of my career, I have long admired CEDIA for its advocacy of immersive home audio experiences,â notes Friedman. âNow, as our homes become the hub of work, education, entertainment and well-being, CEDIA members are indispensable partners in making our homes more comfortable and connected. This truly is CEDIA’s time, and I am honored to join the team at this exciting time. “

He also designed and developed GRAMMYs on the Hill, an annual advocacy program involving both congressional and music industry leaders. He has worked to increase and modernize the membership of the Academy, leading initiatives to update recruiting practices to reflect the diversity of the industry.
Friedman’s interest in technology was heightened by his close collaboration with the Academy’s Producers and Engineers Wing. Later, Friedman and the Wing led the effort to pass the Music Producers’ Allowance Act (AMP), a federal law that protects the livelihoods of members of the Technical Wing.
Friedman’s selection concludes a long and deliberate research carried out by Vetted Solutions. The process involved several rounds of interviews and exercises, including a final meeting where the candidate interviewed the search committee, asking candid questions about the role and expectations.
