CEDIA Appoints Veterans Association Director Daryl Friedman as Global President and CEO | State



FISHERMEN, Ind., 20 October 2021 / PRNewswire / – CEDIA, the global trade association for the home technology industry, has appointed Daryl friedman as global president and CEO. He will assume the role of November 29, 2021.

Friedman has spent over 30 years in nonprofit leadership roles, overseeing the membership, advocacy, industry relations and technical wing of the 25,000-member Recording Academy. The Academy, known worldwide for the GRAMMY Awards, is the association representing technical and creative music professionals.

Friedman has successfully advocated for legislation providing assistance to the recording community during the COVID-19 pandemic and protecting the rights of creators in the age of streaming, earning the title of “Man of Music Creators in Washington“of Billboard. He also designed and developed GRAMMYs on the Hill, an annual advocacy program involving both congressional and music industry leaders. He has worked to increase and modernize the membership of the Academy, leading initiatives to update recruiting practices to reflect the diversity of the industry.

Friedman’s interest in technology was heightened by his close collaboration with the Academy’s Producers and Engineers Wing. A key advisor to the Wing’s technologists and manufacturers leadership, he has visited studios across the country and frequently spoke about the need to protect the rights of those who use their technological skills to improve people’s lives. In 2014, the Wing approved CEDIA’s High Resolution Audio Training Program for Home Technology Professionals. Later, Friedman and the Wing led the effort to pass the Music Producers’ Allowance Act (AMP), a federal law that protects the livelihoods of members of the Technical Wing.

Friedman’s selection concludes a long and deliberate research carried out by Vetted Solutions. The process involved several rounds of interviews and exercises, including a final meeting where the candidate interviewed the search committee, asking candid questions about the role and expectations.
